JGies.net

It’s Back!

JGies.net has been in various forms of existence for a very long time, although most of that time it has just been a set of ideas in my head.  I have not utilized this domain for anything besides email in a few years, and have recently decided that now seems like a pretty good time to get back into it.  Since obviously there are no viewers of my website at the moment, I’m going to outline a few of the things that I would like to do with it in the future. Hopefully this will serve as an organizational tool for myself, and allow others to know what to expect.

First off, I’m a computer engineer from Northwest Ohio and have been interested in computers and just about anything else I’ve come across my entire life. I love to find cool utilities and websites and can never turn down a good debate, generally regardless of topic. I’ve worked in the web industry off and on for over 10 years and first started writing HTML around 1994. I’ve seen and worked with a lot of technologies and design methodologies over this time, as I jumped on the world wide web bandwagon, so to speak, quite early. In that time I’ve made plenty of observations and realizations that I hope to share and showcase through this site.

As it stands, I have a couple of domains I’m working with and am not sure exactly how best to separate them. I believe I will keep the .net one as more of an informal, personal feel and the .com will become a professional presence for potential clients and employers to become more acquainted with my professional side. Eventually some of these topics might be published on both sites, but for now JGies.net will be the focus.

So here we are, if you’re still reading I won’t waste any more time and just put my goals/hopes for this in an unordered list.

  • One location for all of my social networking services and contact information
  • Resumé and C.V. along with links to publications and articles that I wrote/co wrote/were featured in
  • Links to amusing youtube & other internet finds
  • Programming examples and tutorials with a strong emphasis on proper abstraction methods (good design practices) and more specifically within the domain of the world wide web
  • U.I. development – visualizations, charts, graphs, maps, etc. to showcase how one can use various free tools to more effectively communicate information
  • Ramblings about cargo cult sciences with examples seen across the globe and critical analysis of reports/articles/research/etc. that effectively say nothing.
